Studying in the USA - Planning To Move

When planning your travels, realize that you cannot enter the USA more than 30 days prior to the start date of your studies as listed on your I-20 form. Use the time before you can leave to prepare yourself for studying overseas!

There is much to learn about the USA before you leave, such as how Americans perceive personal space, what their idioms mean, and how you should interact with them to stay out of trouble! Go to Culture USA's Understanding American Culture pages to learn about these crucial issues. For further reading, see other web sites and we recommend to further your preparation.

Before leaving, make sure you have packed everything you will need, have your finances in order, and have all of your travel documents in hand in order to pass through customs. Follow the link to the right for a departure checklist.

For many students, after all of this preparation is made the biggest fear becomes arriving in the USA and not knowing anyone. We can try to help! Click on the link below to let us know when you are arriving. We will be glad to try to help you arrange to have an American meet you at the airport, get you to your university, and help you get settled in!
